Description

Against a ground split between scrubbed white and deep brown-black, one woman stands in the red dress while a second arches backward out of her, head thrown back, dark hair falling, a length of pale yellow-green cloth draped across her body and caught in the standing figure’s hand.

The two bodies share a single silhouette, so it stays unclear whether one is lifting the other or letting her go. The pale cloth is the only cool note in the painting and it carries the movement, sweeping from the standing figure’s shoulder down to the other’s ankles.

The title names the relationship directly: the source of the work and the person making it, occupying one outline.
