Description
A figure hangs upside down at the top of a tall, narrow canvas: two legs pressed together and raised, the deep red dress pouring downward and pooling across the lower half of the picture. Beside it hangs an empty wooden hanger, still holding the dress’s thin straps. The garment is being worn and abandoned in the same gesture.
The red dress recurs throughout Fetahu’s work. It was her mother’s, and she paints it as a carrier of inheritance: tradition, memory, and stories handed from one generation to the next. Here it behaves like water rather than cloth, and the inversion reads less as falling than as release: weight leaving the body.
Air is the painting that carried her work abroad. It took first place twice in India, at the 4th Rajeshwari Kala Mahotsava in 2020 and at EmoZioni in 2021. It was selected for The Best Modern and Contemporary Artists 2021 in Italy, and in 2023 it received the Leonardo Da Vinci Prize in Milan.
