How a painting is packed and delivered, what the price includes, and what happens if something is wrong. Version of 29 September 2026.
What delivery costs
Prices on this site include VAT but not shipping. Crating, packing and insured delivery are charged in addition, depending on the destination and the size of the work, and the cost is shown at checkout before payment.
Every shipment is insured for its full purchase price until it is delivered. The risk of loss or damage stays with the artist until then.
Crating and dispatch
Works up to 100 cm on the longest side travel in a flat art box with corner protection. Larger works are shipped in a purpose-built crate. Each work is packed by hand, and never in packaging that has been used before.
Allow five to ten working days between cleared payment and dispatch: a crate for a large canvas is made to measure and cannot be rushed without risking the work. A tracking number is sent by email as soon as the shipment is booked. Transit times depend on the destination and on customs clearance.
Customs, duties and import VAT
Works are sent from Switzerland, which is outside the customs territory of the European Union. For deliveries outside Switzerland the buyer is the importer: the destination country will normally charge import VAT and may charge customs duty and a clearance fee. These are not included in the price, are paid by the buyer, usually to the carrier before delivery, and are outside the artist’s control.
Many countries apply a reduced rate of import VAT to original works of art, so it is worth checking the local rate before ordering. If a delivery is refused or not collected because of import charges, the cost of bringing the work back is deducted from the refund.
Damage in transit
Inspect the packaging on arrival, before signing for it where the carrier allows. If the crate or box is visibly damaged, note it on the carrier’s paperwork.
Report any damage within seven days of delivery to info@argenitafetahu.com, with photographs of the work, the packaging and the damage. Keep all of the packaging until the claim is settled: an insurer will normally refuse a claim if it has been discarded. A work damaged in transit is refunded in full, including any shipping charge.
Returning a work
Swiss law gives no general right to withdraw from a purchase made online. The artist nevertheless offers one: a work bought through this website can be returned within fourteen days of delivery, without giving a reason.
To return a work, email info@argenitafetahu.com within those fourteen days, then send it back within a further fourteen days, in its original crate or box and in the condition in which it arrived. The cost and insurance of the return shipment are paid by the buyer, and the work is the buyer’s risk until it arrives back. If a work comes back damaged, or has been varnished, cleaned or otherwise altered, the refund is reduced by the loss in value.
This return right is in addition to the statutory warranty set out in the Terms and Conditions, and does not restrict any more extensive right of withdrawal that a consumer has under the mandatory law of their country of residence.
Refunds
Refunds are made within fourteen days of the returned work arriving and being inspected, to the original payment method, or by bank transfer where the order was paid that way. The refund covers the price of the work. Shipping paid on the original order is refunded only where the work was faulty or damaged on arrival.
Import VAT and duties paid to the destination country are not collected by the artist and cannot be refunded by her. The carrier or the local customs authority can say whether they can be reclaimed.
Faulty works
If a work has a defect, the statutory warranty applies as set out in the Terms and Conditions, and the artist pays for the return shipment.
Commissions and murals
Commissioned paintings and murals are not sold through this website. Because they are made to a brief, the return right above does not apply to them; terms are agreed in writing before work begins.
